COLDKSY.CN – The new ice cream varieties that went viral on the Internet were hardly a favourite choice for brick- and -mortar stores, according to a report published on CBNdata (https://cbndata.com/report/2363/detail?isReading=report&page=16).
Major foreign and domestic brands including Wall’s, Nestle, Meiji, Ili and Mengniu occupied 70 percent of the ice cream mark, which is expected to hit 165 billion yuan next year from 70.1 billion yuan in 2014.
2018 marked an important change in the market as domestic leading brands saw their growth shrinking while Internet marketing gave rise to new competitors endorsed by KOLs on social media platforms.
For the new brands, the most popular flavours are still the classic ones including chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, milk, and fruits. But weird flavours such as egg yolk and egg yolk also made a splash.
However, physical stores were less enthusiastic towards the new brands for reasons including sales uncertainties, higher purchasing cost and limited supply channel.
