COLDSKY.CN – WeChat is so big, intrusive, and powerful that I strongly wish the supper app can slim down into separate spin-offs, but it has kept adding new functions significantly reshaping the business and life.
A report by 36kr.com said WeChat is currently testing the livestreaming feature in the user group. If you are a teacher with many students in the same group, you can live broadcast your teaching now, and the feature also bans the external sharing of the content. Many users can share the livestreaming at the same time, so basically it’s a link users can choose to watch or ignore it.
The new feature, which can be activated in the chat box, is unlike the livestreaming function introduced on Feb 1 on WeChat Work, the for-enterprise version now renamed as WeCom amid Trump’s shutdown threat.
WeChat is clearly putting more efforts on short-video market, which has already big rivals like Kuaishou and Douyin. So the new feature, if officially rolled out, will allow WeChat to be more like an operating system, a dominating one, to integrate everything into its ecosystem.
But what about the independent, single-purpose apps?
