COLDSKY.CN – Mukzin, a designer brand that modernizes traditional Chinese aesthetics, will keep its eyes on diversifying its products and the international market after raising tens of millions of yuan in a Series A round of funding.
The latest investment came from Capital Nuts(坚果资本) and Oriza Holdings Yuandian(元禾原点)after it acquired funds from Crystal Stream(清流资本) in June 2016.
MUKZIN was established by Creative Director Kate Han and her husband George Feng in 2014. The couple are “both well-versed in the essence of Western art and fashion, as well struggling with the indifference to the traditional culture among domestic youngsters,” according to a Shanghai Fashion Week report.
Feng told startup news portal 36kr.com that MUKZIN, which sees itself as more than a fashion brand, now has three product lines catering to customized, standard and mass-produced.
Instead, MUKZIN aims to center on Chinese culture to evolve into an ecosystem encompassing other areas, such as experimental crossover cooperation with tourism agency CAISSA Touristic (Group) AG and makeup brand Maybelline.
Feng also says the biggest advantage of his team is insight into Chinese culture and development.
To increase its global exposure, MUKZIN will participate in Paris Fashion Week and as a listed brand on the online marketplace Tmall.com, which contributes 70 percent of sales by MUKZIN.
MUKZIN will also open a new art space to help customers better understand the brand at a close distance, leaving the possibility open to launch own stores in the future.
