COLDSKY.CN – Shenzhen-based  artificial meat startup STARFIELD(星期零) raised +$10M from Sky9 Capital(云九资本) and previous investors Joy Capital (愉悦资本) and Matrix Partners China (经纬中国) .

In the plant-based meat industry, STARFIELD is said to have most brands partners and largest fund raised. It runs 20 types of artificial meat products with flavours of beef, chicken, pork and seafood, without using fragrances.

According to 36kr.com, the company’s funder Kiki, a vegetarian,  said STARFIELD is trying meet demand, has the endorsement by Shuhai Supply Chain Solutions for a vast number of catering companies, and will enter cooperation with nearly 100 brands.

The product aims to imitate real meat in color, smell, taste, texture and even sound, such as the noise given off when meat is deep fried, Li Jian, the university lab team’s leader, was quoted as saying in the China Daily newspaper in August.

The new round of financing will help the company establish a lab in Shenzhen.

Cao Darong of Sky9 Capital said more and more consumers become aware of the adverse impacts of eating meat on people’s health, climate change, and animals. The coronavirus outbreak also motivates people to rethink their diet choices.
